LIFE
Life here runs on its own rhythm. Mornings start with coffee on the deck, the city skyline just waking up across the water, before a lakeside walk or run around Green Lake, six-tenths of a mile away and one of Seattle's best-loved loops. Afternoons might mean a wander through Cowen Park's ravine trails, a stroller loop around the Maple Leaf Reservoir, or a coffee run to one of the neighborhood's espresso spots. When the sun starts to dip, Roosevelt's small business district is a five-minute walk: organic breakfast at Portage Bay Cafe, fresh-baked pastries at Macrina Bakery & Cafe, brunch and bar food at The Maple, a slice at Olympic Pizza, or sushi at Sushi Tokyo. It's a neighborhood built for actually living in, not just passing through.
THE COMMUTE
This is about as centrally located as Seattle gets. I-5's Roosevelt/Ravenna exit is minutes away, putting downtown Seattle roughly fifteen minutes south with no surface streets required. Heading east, SR 520 is a straight shot from I-5, making the Eastside, Microsoft, Bellevue, Redmond, a realistic reverse commute. Headed north, that same freeway access puts Northgate, Shoreline, and Everett all within easy reach. And on car-free days, the Roosevelt light rail station is a half-mile walk, with direct service to the University of Washington, Capitol Hill, Downtown, and Sea-Tac Airport.
THE SCHOOLS
Roosevelt High School, rated 10 out of 10 by GreatSchools, is a half-mile walk from the front door. For families interested in Seattle Public Schools' option programs, Thornton Creek Elementary, a PreK-5 open-enrollment option school in the View Ridge/Wedgwood area, is about a three-mile drive and open to students citywide, regardless of home address.
